Multiple Choice Questions (1 to 8)

[9 Marks Total]
Q. 01 Spreadsheet Basics • Excel Functions
[1 Mark]

Which function returns the arithmetic mean of the given set of values ?

(A) MAX ()
(B) MEAN ()
(C) AVERAGE ()
(D) MIN ()
Verified Answer • Option (C)

Ans. (C) AVERAGE ()
Curricular Justification: In spreadsheet applications (MS Excel), the built-in function to compute the arithmetic mean of a range of numerical values is =AVERAGE(number1, [number2], ...). There is no built-in function named MEAN() in standard spreadsheet packages. MAX() returns the highest value, and MIN() returns the smallest value.

Q. 02 Word Processing • Media Elements
[1 Mark]

Which of these is a single media file including sound, animation, art or movie?

(A) Smart art
(B) Graphic art
(C) Clip art
(D) Word art
Verified Answer • Option (C)

Ans. (C) Clip art
Curricular Justification: In MS Word and PowerPoint, Clip Art refers to a collection of pre-packaged graphic images, sounds, animations, and video clips that can be inserted directly into documents to enhance visual communication. SmartArt is used for structural organizational diagrams, and WordArt creates stylized decorative typography.

Q. 03 Spreadsheets & Documents • Charts
[1 Mark]

From which of the following tabs, you can select chart type option?

(A) Formulas
(B) Page Layout
(C) Insert
(D) Review
Verified Answer • Option (C)

Ans. (C) Insert
Curricular Justification: In both Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word ribbon interfaces, all graphical chart types (Column, Bar, Line, Pie, Area, Scatter, etc.) are situated under the Insert tab in the Charts group.

Q. 04 Keyboard Shortcuts • Text Editing
[1 Mark]

Which shortcut key is pressed to cut the text?

(A) CTRL+X
(B) CTRL+A
(C) CTRL+I
(D) SHIFT+I
Verified Answer • Option (A)

Ans. (A) CTRL+X
Curricular Justification: The key combination Ctrl + X removes the selected text or object from its current location and stores it on the Windows Clipboard. In comparison, Ctrl + A selects all content, and Ctrl + I applies italics formatting.

Q. 05 Word Processing • List Formatting
[1 Mark]

These lists are created using Indent buttons :

(A) Nested lists
(B) Format lists
(C) Alphabetic lists
(D) Members lists
Verified Answer • Option (A)

Ans. (A) Nested lists
Curricular Justification: In MS Word paragraph formatting, clicking the Increase Indent button on a list item demotes it to a lower hierarchical level, creating a multi-level list or nested list (a sub-list structured within a parent list).

Q. 06 Drawing Tools • Illustrations
[1 Mark]

Block arrows, stars and banners, two and three dimensional shapes, connectors, etc., are categories of ______ which can be found under Insert tab:

(A) Auto shapes
(B) All shapes
(C) Shapes
(D) Designs
Verified Answer • Option (C) [also recognized historically as (A)]

Ans. (C) Shapes (or AutoShapes)
Curricular Justification: Under the Insert tab in the Illustrations group, the dropdown gallery is named Shapes (referred to in earlier MS Office documentation as AutoShapes). It organizes ready-made geometrical shapes into sub-categories including Lines, Rectangles, Basic Shapes, Block Arrows, Equation Shapes, Flowcharts, Stars and Banners, and Callouts.

Q. 07 Font Formatting • Change Case
[1 Mark]

______ case capitalizes the first letter of the first word in each sentence:

(A) Lower
(B) Upper
(C) Sentence
(D) Title
Verified Answer • Option (C)

Ans. (C) Sentence
Curricular Justification: In the Change Case menu of MS Word, Sentence case capitalizes only the very first character of the opening word in each grammatical sentence and sets all subsequent characters to lowercase.

Q. 08 Assertion & Reasoning • Paragraph & Font Typography
[2 Marks (1 + 1)]

In the questions given below two statements are marked as Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Choose the correct option in support of your answer from the options given below each question:

Sub-part (i) [1 Mark]:

Assertion (A) : The default is single line spacing and it depends on the size of the font characters.

Reason (R) : Line spacing determines the height of each line of text in the paragraph.

(A) Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is the correct explanation of (A).
(B) Both (A) and (R) are true but (R) is not the correct explanation of (A).
(C) (A) is true but (R) is false.
(D) (A) is false but (R) is true.
(E) Both (A) and (R) are false.
Ans. (A) Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is the correct explanation of (A).
Explanation: Line spacing defines the vertical distance from baseline to baseline between text lines. Because single spacing scales to accommodate the tallest font glyph in a line plus a baseline margin, the single line space directly depends on font character size.
Sub-part (ii) [1 Mark]:

Assertion (A) : Arial and Times New Roman are examples of Font face families.

Reason (R) : Font is the basic type face in which your words are displayed and each font family has a specific way of formatting individual letters.

Explanation: A typeface/font family (such as Arial sans-serif or Times New Roman serif) defines a cohesive typographic design governing glyph strokes, serifs, and proportions, proving both statements and their direct logical linkage.

SECTION B (PART III)

Long Answer Question (24)

[4 Marks • 80–120 words]
Q. 24 (Comprehensive) [2 + 2 = 4 Marks]

(i) Define the following terms:
    (a) TCP/IP
    (b) HTML
(ii) Explain how data is transferred over the Internet.

Detailed Technical Solution:
Part (i) Technical Definitions:

(a) TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol):
TCP/IP is the foundational suite of communication protocols that enables computers to connect, communicate, and route data across the worldwide Internet. • TCP: Breaks outgoing data files into small, manageable units called packets, handles flow control, and ensures guaranteed, error-free delivery and sequential reassembly at the receiving machine. • IP: Provides logical host addressing and handles packet routing, ensuring each packet reaches its designated destination IP address across diverse interconnected networks.

(b) HTML (HyperText Markup Language):
HTML is the standard authoring markup language used to design, create, and structure web pages displayed on the World Wide Web. It utilizes predefined tags (such as <html>, <head>, <title>, <body>, <p>, <table>) to embed headings, paragraphs, hyperlinks, tables, audio, video, and images into formatted documents that web browsers can render.

Part (ii) Mechanism of Data Transfer Over the Internet (Packet Switching):

Data travels across the Internet using the mechanism of packet switching governed by the TCP/IP protocol stack through three coordinated stages:

  1. 1. Packetization at the Source (TCP):
When a user sends an email, requests a web page, or transfers a file, the sending computer's TCP software divides the continuous digital stream into small chunks called data packets (typically 1 to 1.5 KB each). Each packet is stamped with a header containing the Sender's IP address, Receiver's IP address, a sequence number, and an error-checking checksum.
  2. 2. Independent Routing Across Networks (IP):
Each packet is launched independently into the network. Specialized hardware devices called routers examine the destination IP in each packet header and dynamically forward it through the fastest, least congested path across fiber-optic cables, satellite links, and switches. Because routes are dynamic, different packets of the exact same message may travel along entirely different physical routes and arrive at different times.
  3. 3. Reassembly & Verification at Destination (TCP):
Upon reaching the destination computer, the receiving TCP software inspects each incoming packet. If any packet is corrupted or missing, TCP automatically signals the sender to retransmit it. Once all packets arrive intact, TCP reorders them using their sequence numbers into the original file format and delivers it seamlessly to the application layer (e.g., web browser or email client).
